Mission:

The office of Controller General of Acounts was formed under an ordinance issued in 2001. (CGA Ordinance)
The Office is the premier accounting office of the Government of Pakistan and has been entrusted with task of producing timely and accurate financial statements of the federation.The office achieves this task through dedciated human resources, massive investment in infrastructure and strict quality control checks by the Senior Officers.
The Office is also responsible for disbursing government money in form of payments of salaries & allowances to government servants, payments to contractors. All these transaction, and any other transaction by Government of Pakistan, are captured in the SAP ERP and then the information is used to generate monthly, quarterly & yearly financial statements.

Functions of the office:

Main codified functions of Controller General of Accounts as envisaged in CGA Ordinance 2001 are:

To prepare and maintain the accounts of federation and provinces and district governments.
To authorize payments and withdrawals from the Consolidated Fund and Public Accounts of the Federal and Provincial governments

Other functions contributing to sound financial management:

Formulating the principles governing the internal financial control for government departments.
Rendering advice on accounting procedure for new schemes, programs or activities undertaken by the Government concerned.
Providing the information required by the Federal, Provincial or District Governments (in so far as accounts compiled permit)
Developing and maintaining an efficient system of pension, provident funds and other recruitment benefits
